Lately I've become rather interested in pre-Stoker vampire tales. The fascinating thing about them is that they're often very different to post-Stoker vampire stories. One that I'm very fond of is Johann Ludwig Tieck’s "Wake Not the Dead", written around 1800. And of course there’s John Polidori’s hugely influential “The Vampyre”, again dealing with a vampire very different from the more familiar post-Dracula ones.
