Greg Bear’s The Infinity Concerto is an example of a dark fantasy (at times verging on pure horror) novel in which a piece of music exercises a kind of demonic power, unlocking a portal between worlds.
And of course there was the story told about the violin virtuoso Paganini, that he must have made some kind of deal with the Devil, since no mere mortal could have played the violin so well without diabolical assistance.
So we’re looking for horror stories in which music plays a key role, either as an instrument of evil, or possibly as a defence against evil. Can anyone think of any?
