I’ve now finished the Virago Book of Ghost Stories: The 20th Century. Overall a pretty good collection. I was particularly impressed by Lady Eleanor Smith’s Whittington’s Cat (she’s probably the most underrated of all 20th century writers of weird fiction). Richmal Compton’s Rosalind was also extremely good. Redundant by Dorothy K. Haynes and The Landlady by Elinor Mordaunt are both very unconventional and very fine ghostly tales.
Definitely an anthology worth buying.
