I’ve read a few more ghostly tales from the Virago Book of Ghost Stories. I’ve enjoyed the handful of stories that I’ve managed to find by Edith Nesbit, and her 1910 story No. 17 is no exception. Ann Bridge’s The Station Road and D. K. Broster’s The Pestering are both fairly traditional but extremely good ghost stories from the 1930s, while Penelope Lively’s Black Dog is a great modern ghost tale. Pamela Sewell’s Prelude is an interesting modern story of a musical haunting.
