dipping into my horror anthologies

I have so many anthologies, mostly science fiction and horror anthologies, lying about with only a few stories read in them. Which is silly because I love short stories. So I’ve decided that every time I finish a novel I will read at least a couple of short stories before starting the next novel.
So I’ve just read three stories from Dark Love and Forbidden Acts, two anthologies of erotic horror.
Basil Copper’s Bright Blades Gleaming was OK, although it didn’t take long to see where it was going. Furies in Black Leather by Nancy Collins was disappointing – I’d have expected something a bit more original from her. Karl Edward Wagner’s Locked Away is about a woman who finds an antique locket that unlocks to reveal more than just a picture and a lock of hair. The basic idea is fairly routine but he builds it into a reasonably good little story. Lucy Taylor’s Heat was what you expect from Lucy Taylor – very erotic indeed. She does tales of sexual obsession better than just about anyone else. She takes her stories to places other writers would fear to tread. It was the best by far, of the four stories.
