Although the name of August Derleth is probably familiar to many through his connection with Lovecraft he’s perhaps no so well known for his own work. I came across a couple of his stories in an old anthology a couple of days ago (it’s actually The Night Gallery Reader, from the Rod Serling TV series of the 1970s). The stories were House - with Ghost and The Dark Boy. I thought they were fairly average ghost stories.
So what do people here think of Derleth as a writer? Are there any stories of his worth chasing up?
