Name: Greg

Where you live: New York

What you do with yourself: When I'm not working, I'm usually hanging out with my wife and kids. I try to write during my free-time and read books piecemeal during the day.

Favorite horror or ghost story author, and why: While I have a long-standing obsession with H. P. Lovecraft, I think the only author who genuinely disturbs me is Thomas Ligotti. Stories like "Gas Station Carnivals" and "The Shadow, The Darkness" showcase Ligotti's talent for slowly alienating the reader. After a few weeks of ingesting the man's work, you're left feeling strangely depressed but somehow wanting more. Several themes run through Thomas Ligotti's work, but the two most important would be (a) that the universe is a huge, festering mistake, and, somewhat related, (b) that reality is a mask for something even more horrible than itself.

Favourite horror-film and director: Probably John Carpenter's The Thing. I can't think of a consistently entertaining director of horror movies, aside from the obvious choice of Alfred Hitchcock.

How did you get into horror/the supernatural: My grandmother introduced me to horror movies when I was a kid, but I don't think I had an appreciation for scary stories until I was a teenager.

Ever had any strange, inexplicable and/or scary experiences of your own: I've heard disembodied whistling, growls and talking, though not in the last ten years or so. Other people were usually with me when these things were happening. It was usually only scary in retrospect, but once when I was cleaning my room something invisible near my bookcase snarled so loud I nearly fell backward.
