I’ve been reading some ghost stories by women writers, from a collection called Classic Victorian and Edwardian Ghost Stories. The Phantom Coach by Amelia B. Edwards had some nice atmosphere, although I’m still not just of the exact significance of the old guy with the telescope. Elizabeth Gaskell’s The Squire's Story was an entertaining yarn although perhaps not really a ghost story. Edith Nesbit’s Man-Size in Marble was the best of the three, with the marble statues being an excellent idea.

Interestingly all three women wrote their stories in the first person, as a male narrator.
