I almost ignored the sale table in the Dymocks Bookshop today, but fortunately I didn’t. And as a result I picked up three Algernon Blackwood books, at $3 each (pretty good considering the average price for mass market paperbacks in Australia is around $20). All short story collections, from a publisher I’ve never heard of, Redwood Editions – The Dance of Death and other stories, Ancient Sorceries and other stories and Best Ghost Stories of Algernon Blackwood.
I’ve read a few of Blackwood’s stories in the past and they impressed me enormously. Lovecraft in his Supernatural Horror in Literature named Blackwood’s story The Willows as the greatest of all weird tales.
