On the subject of crime fiction involving the supernatural it’s worth noting that that the traditional Chinese detective story generally involves some supernatural elements. Clues to crimes are often provided by ghosts.
Robert van Gulik’s Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee is a translation of an 18th century novel concerning Judge Dee, a famous real-life judge and criminal investigator of the 7th century AD. Van Gulik went on to write a series of novels recounting further fictional cases of Judge Dee. All his books are great fun. The Haunted Monastery is a particular favourite of mine.
