sadly the most recent entry in this community, on one of peter haining's many great ghost and horror anthologies, seems sadly prescient because it appears that he died yesterday. i knew about haining a long time before i became a fan of ghost stories mainly because i was a sad teenage doctor who fan and any doctor who fan of the eighties would have at least one of haining's many doctor who books on their shelves. he's always been something of a mark of quality for me, so it's always been nice to see he's dabbled in crime anthologies and, when i finally found my way into this genre, someone i was glad could guide me through the better writers of the ghost story. i think any reasonably large collection of ghost stories will have at least a few volumes edited by the man and if they don't, then frankly they should as many of them are classics of their type. he'll be much missed
