I've just read this collection of ghost stories by Terry Lamsley and it's a very fine collection. I haven't read many contemporary ghost stories, but if one were to do so, then this would be the definite book to pick up. All of the stories clearly shown an influence, yet aren't derivative, of the classic writers such as Aickman or James and they all were quite frightening. His writing style may seem as simple or uncomplicated, but it adds to the terrifying effect; in the end, you're not quite sure what you've just experienced, just that it was something from "out there", wherever that is.
