Name?:
Jack
Where you live?:
Upstate New York
What you do with yourself?:
I'm currently a PhD in English candidate looking to write my dissertation on the intersection of the Gothic and queer sexualities. I currently support myself by teaching British Literature. I also write the odd weird tale on the side.
Favourite horror or ghost story author, and why?:
To my mind, Edgar Allan Poe will forever be the master. No other author that I can think of has been as successful at using the "unity of effect" to craft tales of terror.
Favourite horror-film and director?:
It's quite difficult to pick a favorite film...but I suppose I've always been obsessed with Black Sunday. Barbara Steele, witches, vampires, and lush black-and-white photography...what more can you ask for? My favorite director is David Cronenberg. His use of "bodily horror" is the stuff that keeps me up at night.
How did you get into horror/the supernatural?:
I've been fairly morbid since childhood and it shows no signs of relenting anytime soon.
Ever had any strange, inexplicable and/or scary experiences of your own?:
I can hear footsteps in my house when there is nobody but me at home and there is a certain figurine in the china cabinet that always ends up facing backwards no matter how many times you set it right.
Have your say! What do you think about the community? How could it be improved?
It looks fine so far! I look forward to joining the discussions soon.
