Fantastic Victoriana

violet_whispers, then you'll have seen this link already today, so I apologize for the repetition, but I feel I ought to advertise Jess Nevin's A to Z of Fantastic, Mysterious and Adventurous Victoriana on this community too. The site, which is all written in a simple and informal style (except the fanciful introduction), is a useful compendium of Victorian characters from the era's notable fantastic, detective and supernatural fiction. The author is due to bring the website out in (slightly revised, updated) book form in November of this year, for those of you who can't stand reading off a monitor :)
I was particularly fond of Nevin's assessment of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's psychological horror story The Yellow Wall-Paper, and the way he compares it to Henry James' classic The Turn Of The Screw...Though there may be matter for debate there! I also liked the site layout because of its illuminated manuscript-style section headings from bygone days.
A few words of warning to the site visitor: the site is hosted by Geocities and as such is apt to break down from time to time due to excess traffic, but I was able to visit it quite a few times today, so hopefully that won't be too much of a problem. Also, beware of spoilers! As many of the ripping yarns are described in some detail.
