So do we have any Tanith Lee fans here? I think she’s one of the few modern horror writers who manages to achieve a truly gothic feel, especially in “Dark Dance” and her werewolf novels, “Lycanthia” and “Heart-Beast”. Gothic with lots of erotic overtones, what more could you want? Her Paradys stories also have some real gothic atmosphere. And “Yellow and Red” is (for me) one of the best modern ghost stories.

Edward Bulwer-Lytton is an author who has attracted his fair share of ridicule. He did, after all, start a novel with the words, “It was a dark and stormy night.” I read one of his short stories recently, and was surprised to find that it was actually extremely good. The story was “The Haunters and the Haunted”. Has anyone read anything else of his? I’m especially interested in opinions on his novel “Zanoni”, which supposedly deals with Rosicrucianism.
