Hello and welcome! I'm Daisy your moderator. The community is a bit of a building-site at the moment and I'm still working on a list of links for the info page and an introduction form. Any suggestions for the interests list, or for cool websites? Now's the time to pitch your ideas :) Here's to fear!

Here is an introduction form for all you new members to fill in - or feel free to write a freestyle intro post if you'd rather :)

Name?:
Daisy

Where you live?:
Exeter, Devon (in the United Kingdom.)

What you do with yourself?:
I'm a physics graduate and have worked as an engineer and done optoelectronics research, but I'm currently unemployed and very bored :/

Favourite horror or ghost story author, and why?:
My all-time fave would have to be M.R. James, for his simple, subtle style, great original plots and the utter malevolence of his ghostly creations! But I admire many others such as the master of pagan horror Arthur Machen, the weaver of uneasy fantasy Robert Aickmann, and the charming sophisticate E.F. Benson.

Favourite horror-film and director?:
There are many horror films I love, in particular Eyes Without A Face, an old French black and white film about a young girl mutilated in a car crash, whose plastic surgeon father sets about making her a new face using very unscrupulous methods...I think my fave horror director is David Cronenberg, though I tend to go for certain films rather than certain directors.

How did you get into horror/the supernatural?:
Like most children I had a healthy interest in the nasty side of life, but my Damascene conversion came when I was eight and my father thrust a copy of the collected stories of M R James into my hands, after I complained of boredom one wet weekend. I plunged into the book and have never looked back since!

Ever had any strange, inexplicable and/or scary experiences of your own?:
The countryside in Devon always feels thick with pagan mystery to me, and once on a remote hillside on a hot, still summer's day I heard some very odd, beautiful meandering pipe music apparently coming from nowhere (and you can be sure I had a jolly good look around!). After a few minutes of this I noticed a black horse staring at me in a nearby field and suddenly panic terror just descended on me and I had to run back down the hill. A few times I have come across places in the woods or fields that I just know to be bad in some way.

Have your say! What do you think about the community? How could it be improved?
Well I think it's spanktastically wonderful because I made it :p
