The Sound of His Horn

Hat tip to [personal profile] joysilence for putting me onto Sarban.

I have just finished The Sound of His Horn and enjoyed it very much. Without giving anything away, it is about the war time adventures of a British soldier who escaped from a POW camp in Germany. It does, of course, have a few weird twists, and is about terror/horror, or I wouldn't be mentioning it in this community.

The book deals with the horror of isolation; is a warning of the excesses of unchecked Nazism (and is really anti-Nazi propaganda in that context); could be construed as being about S&M; is misogynous; or simply panders to male fantasy. Whatever, it appealed to me.

I've read Sarban's The Doll Maker already (another good book) and have his collection Ringstones lined up to read.

I must get onto reading some of my Aickman and Ligotti stories.
